Mencap is “the leading voice of learning disability” and with the help of our staff and customers we hope to be able to help them provide high quality services and support for people with learning disabilities right here in Northern Ireland.
The charity works to change laws, challenge prejudice and provide support to help people with a learning disability live their lives as they choose and Winemark are delighted to be working alongside them.
Through participating in various activities and fundraisers throughout the year, including a Zip Line across the River Lagan, our staff are keen to take on the challenge of meeting our £30,000 fundraising target!
There are lots of opportunities to be involved in helping us meet our goal including in store raffles, word jumbles or even just popping some change in the collection box – it all adds up!
With the commitment of our staff and the additional support of our customers we hope to raise as much money as possible for our Charity of the Year.
Cheers to Winemark and an incredible 18 months of fundraising that amounted to almost £40,000 raised for a local children’s cancer charity.
The off licence group threw themselves into fundraising for Cancer Fund for Children and managed to raise £38,868.71 for the charity which provides support and free therapeutic breaks for families affected by cancer.
The amount will help the charity continue this vital work and will also help run its brand new therapeutic short break facility – Daisy Lodge – situated at the foothills of the Mourne Mountains. The facility enables the charity to offer a free short break to every family in Northern Ireland affected by childhood cancer.
A group from Winemark recently visited Daisy Lodge for a tour and were amazed with the facility.
Winemark’s Rachel Crawford said: “We’ve really enjoyed supporting Cancer Fund for Children. Our customers and staff got behind our campaign and have been so supportive. Our staff have done everything from wearing Christmas jumpers, holding raffles and competitions in store and even climbing mountains to raise funds!”
Cancer Fund for Children’s Corporate Fundraiser, Sorcha Chipperfield, said: “It’s been such a pleasure to work with Winemark over the past 18 months. We were so grateful to them for selecting us as their charity of the year for 2013. When they knew that Daisy Lodge would be ready by April, Winemark decided to stay on for another six months to help us finish off the project, and to see the doors open.
“Throughout the partnership, the staff have been enthusiastic fundraisers, keen to support our work and have thrown themselves into fundraising.”
This month Winemark donated just over £18,000 to Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children. This donation marks the half way partnership Winemark have with NICFC. This money has been raised through various internal and external events, and of course, via the generosity of our customers.

Over the next few months we hope to raise as much money as possible for NICFC to help support those living with cancer, and people caring for those with Cancer in order to make a difference.

The off-licence chain recently joined forces with the charity which offers practical, emotional and financial support to children and young people with cancer and their families.
Winemark are ambitiously aiming to raise a whopping £30k for NICFC, much to the delight of the charity’s corporate fundraiser, Sorcha Chipperfield.
“This is fantastic news,” Sorcha said. “Winemark is one of the most recognisable and trusted brands in the country so it’s fantastic to be associated with and benefit from that. We hope customers will dig deep and help us raise vital funds which will go towards providing vital respite care to children and young people with cancer and their families.”
“Our respite centre provide a much-needed home away from home. It gives kids with a chance to get away from it all, recuperate and interact with other children in similar situations,” Sorcha added.
Winemark general manager, Fiona McGhee, said the company was delighted to be working alongside NICFC.
“Every week in Northern Ireland three children, teenagers or young adults are diagnosed with cancer. Winemark is committed to raising awareness of this through its partnership with NICFC,” she said.
Fiona added: “We aim to raise as much money as possible by encouraging our staff to get involved in any events and activities we can throughout the next year. We hope this and the added support of our customers purchasing pens or pin badges and donating to our in-store charity boxes will go a long way.”

Winemark employees have been fundraising on behalf of Marie Curie Cancer Care for the last two years and have just announced that they have raised over £65,000!
Approximately 500 members of staff have worked hard to raise this money through sales of daffodil pin badges, dragon boat races, zip line across the lagan, ladies driving challenge and many other events.
“Winemark have been a brilliant partner for Marie Curie Cancer Care and we want to say a huge thank you to all staff and customers who have supported the charity for the last two years. £65,000 will allow Marie Curie nurses to provide a fabulous 3,250 hours of nursing care to terminally ill patients across Northern Ireland”
